Michael John McGarr is an award-winning Landscape Designer, Ecologist and Design Director specialising in ambitious, high-value landscape projects where design, ecology, planning and long-term environmental value are fundamental to the success of a development.
With experience spanning landscape strategy, ecological design, horticulture and planning, Michael works alongside architects, developers, planning consultants, landowners and multidisciplinary design teams on complex sites where exceptional landscape design can add significant value to a project and play a decisive role in achieving planning objectives.
His experience includes contributing to successful Paragraph 84e countryside dwelling applications. This combination of landscape expertise, ecological understanding and planning awareness enables Michael to advise on challenging and sensitive sites from the earliest stages of development through to detailed design and delivery.
Michael’s work is particularly suited to major estates, commercial and mixed-use developments, landmark buildings, large-scale rural projects and planning-led developments, where landscape is integral to the identity, value and long-term performance of the site.
He brings together design excellence, ecological intelligence and practical delivery expertise to create sophisticated, enduring landscapes that respond to their context while enhancing biodiversity, environmental performance, commercial value and the experience of those who use them.
PHILOSOPHY
The most valuable landscapes are not created through hard landscaping alone. They are shaped through a careful understanding of ecology, horticulture, landform, architecture and time. A successful landscape must function environmentally, perform horticulturally and feel rooted in its setting. It should become richer, more resilient and more valuable with every passing year.
Design is simply the framework. Ecology and horticulture are what bring a landscape to life.
